Server maintenance over. Our forums and wiki are now up to date and functional. We however had to roll back to the forum’s default theme. We also switched to PHP 7 and the website should feel more responsive in general.

Due to technical issues and slowdowns, we’re in the process of reinstalling and updating our forums and the Wiki, making some changes to the server’s configuration in the process. Those services might be unavailable in coming hours. This post will be updated when we’re done.
As you may have noticed, I have been relatively quiet in the past few months. It’s no secret I have been coding in the meantime on a second game. It’s now in a shape allowing me to start talking about it in more details and resume writing devlogs. This game, which has yet to be named, is a colony management game. I will detail my goals, progress and distribution plans in this first devlog. No screenshot or video yet, sorry. 🙂
This post is going to be fairly long. I will talk about Unending Galaxy, the recent changes to Steam’s review system and Greenlight and how they impact my studio. Finally we’re going to talk a bit about the game I am currently working on. I also hope you’re enjoying the new website design. It’s still a work in progress, be sure to tell me if there’s something amiss.
Yes, it has been a long time since the last post and update. I should apologize for that. I had to take some time off after spending 2 consecutive years on the same project. And, I also started to work on other projects in parallel, but it’s a bit early to start talking about those in depth. That being said, Unending Galaxy 1.3 will be released in a few weeks. So it has been a week since the Steam release of Unending Galaxy, I suppose it’s time to make a post about it. Well, it was a fairly exhausting process! Between marketing, community management, and the obligatory post launch patches I barely slept during the whole week. All things considered, and despite slightly worse reviews than expected (most of them due to bugs in the initial release), it was a success. Sales are above what I planned, and as such I am fairly confident I can make a living in this line of work.
Well, never say never, because here is another, more stable version of the 1.1 release branch. It will fix most of the major problems encountered in 1.1.0.x, namely instabilities with savegames and trading. It also features new graphical settings to accommodate with older and/or uncommon hardware configuration. I also took the time to include a some of the frequently requested features: You can now assign or remove a home-sector to a group of ships simultaneously, and funds are issued as soon as a build order is given instead of when the construction ends. The new version can be found on the download page. Changelog at the end of this article.
Community News
First of all welcome to all the new members on the forum. It grew quite a bit in the recent weeks, well it grew so big that I had very little time to browse it outside of the technical and bug reports area. Don’t worry I will check out the rest now that this version is out. Another community mod has been released too: Extended Mod by ChaplinChap, it includes new factories, wares and weapons and even a new starting scenario, check it out!
Oh, IndieDB is doing an Indie Awards thingy. there’s no chance we’re going to win, but hey, drop a vote, that can’t hurt 🙂
First, UG is now popular enough that I get sufficient information to fix the most glaring issues right away, and given that the download size is only 100mb or so, posting more frequent updates isn’t really an issue here. So, I fixed a few bugs found in the initial Beta 2, including various menu related bugs, an issue with cargo missions, a few possible crashes, and more importantly it should fix performance and graphical bugs a small percentage of users were experiencing. Incidentally this version should be the first to fully support bloom shaders and other hardware accelerated effects (at least on most computers that are able to run those). An option in the video settings has been added to switch between the full hardware acceleration and the old display mode just in case, it require the game to be restarted if you’re not changing this option from the launcher. As usual it’s available on the download page.
