[devlog] 1.0.5 Release Soon

Hi there !

Snap1570Let’s start with the general news. The Space Game Junkie website is doing what looks like quite a complete let’s play of Unending Galaxy in five parts. I haven’t watched it yet, but you can find it on YouTube. Of course, here’s the usual reminder that Unending Galaxy is on Steam Greenlight, don’t forget to vote, that will help immensely.

The next release (1.0.5) is nearly ready and should be released in a few days. Like the previous builds, it won’t feature anything revolutionary but it will fix many small issues and include a few of your suggestions while still keeping savegame compatible with previous 1.0.x versions. So, let’s get to what has been done so far.

Enjoy 🙂

[design] What Next ?

title06Hey !

First, a reminder that Unending Galaxy has been submitted to Steam Greenlight, so please consider giving it your vote, that would help immensely. People who already bought the game on other market-places will get a free key when the game gets released on Steam. And in case you missed the post, the 1.0.0.1 version has been released too.

That being said, let’s see what awaits us in the next phases of development. Of course, we’ll have a few maintenance patches to fix and improve the existing stuff, but that shouldn’t take very long. What we’re going to see here are more long term and larger themes. As with all posts labeled “design”, those are general ideas that may be either integrated fully, with modification or even discarded entirely. I do not have an ETA for those general ideas, and you are welcome to comment and contribute. Also, note that I am going to take a couple weeks of (much needed) vacation, and as such, I won’t be as responsive as you’re used to this month.

Unending Galaxy 1.0.0.1 Released

CIhwbnRWgAEiGYo.png largeHey !

First of all, general news about the game. We are on Steam Greenlight now ! Please consider giving the game your vote, that would help a lot. People who already bought the game at another store will receive a free steam key if/when it gets released. I am also currently writing a fairly long article about the future additions planned for the game.

That being said, here is a new version of Unending Galaxy which fixes most of the bugs that have been reported so far. This new version is both mod and savegame compatible with 1.0. Both the deluxe and the basic editions have been updated. As usual, if you bought the game in a store, download the updated package, otherwise your download key should work as usual.

Notes and changelog are in the full article.

Patch Soon

Hi there,

The 1.0 release seems to work well for most. Approximately 10 trivial to medium bugs and 2 different, rare crashes have been reported. The bugs have already been fixed. Crashes are being investigated and should be fixed as well. There’s a couple small improvements to the simulation itself too alongside some spell-checking (you’re welcome to contribute if you find grammatical / spelling errors).

The patch alongside the full updated package will be available during the week and it shouldn’t have an impact on existing mods or savegames. It will be available for both the basic and the deluxe editions.

Unending Galaxy 1.0 Released

After a full year of development, Unending Galaxy has just been released as a stable 1.0 build. While the quest to make an all-in-one space simulation is far from finished, it’s still a nice milestone in itself. I can’t thank enough everyone who’ve shown support in any way, shape or form, it means a lot.

As usual, I will detail the changes and explain what’s going to happen next in the full article.

The key new features are:

  • New events including a short storyline.
  • Procedural map generation
  • Improved colony integration
  • New tutorial mode with a couple missions
  • Plenty of additional content and fixes.

[devlog] 1.0 Release Inbound

rtitle06Hey !

This is likely the last big devlog before the 1.0 release, which is planned for around June the 15th. Hey, I am only 3-4 months late on what was supposed to be a one year project, that’s not bad. While we are checking the general news, you can now buy Unending Galaxy at the Indie Game Stand (they accept Bitcoins and Amazon virtual currencies, alongside the usual CC and paypal). Also, the SpaceGameJunkie website published a very long let’s play of the beta 5. There’s a couple of mistakes in the video that I corrected in the comments, but all things considered it was good feedback and I will improve a few things in the UI according to it. I still have to make a decent trailer on my side.

Anyway, back to the game itself ! This is full crunch time, and I barely do anything but code and drink energy drinks (I should have asked for a sponsorship to Monster), it’s a good thing that what’s left isn’t that complicated code wise. This is still a tricky devlog to write as one of the major addition is also a pretty big spoiler, so we’ll get to that part last.
